Hello! So, I’ve been reading up on istio a bit for a while now. I think I got the general concept, and really like it. Abstracting away network details from my application sounds like a great thing, especially given that load balancing in-code is very cumbersome. However, there’s basically one thing I don’t really get yet – How do I actually use it? All the tutorials I found basically highlight how to install it, how to set it up etc., but I don’t really know how to work with it. For example, let’s say my app currently wants to reach another stateful replica in my cluster, of a statefulset with 3 entries. Currently, my code would determine that e.g. replica 2 needs to be called. Okay, so I send a request to: cluster-myservice-2.cluster-myservice.default.svc.cluster.local Awesome. If I do this manually, I can manage this just fine. However, my application currently only does really mundane proxy logic. I want Istio to do all the complex stuff for me. But, how do I call it? Where do I have to send my request to? Maybe I didn’t grasp it to 100% yet. submitted by /u/Sossenbinder [link] [comments]
