As a developer targeting Kubernetes, I’ve been continually frustrated by the leap that must be taken from regular development mode (think local machine with mocks, maybe docker-compose) to seeing if my code actually works properly in a Kubernetes cluster, configured the way it will be ultimately deployed. I could use Skaffold or other similar tools, but then I need to get a registry and all my deployment assets (Helm charts, Kustomize files, raw manifests) in place first, and then make sure everything is configured correctly. What if, as a developer, I don’t understand those assets, haven’t a clue how to configure them, or don’t even have them in my repo? To this end, I created a little tool (https://kdo.dev) that allows developers to work effectively with Kubernetes without needing to know about operational details. With Kdo, you can: run a command in a Kubernetes cluster without any deployment; build and use a custom image to run a command without any registry; inherit pod configuration from an existing workload instead of deploying; replace existing pods while running a command to evaluate end-to-end behavior. Would love to hear if other developers targeting Kubernetes have had similar frustrations and if a tool like Kdo could be helpful! submitted by /u/StepProv [link] [comments]
